Tall Man, Bearded, Running

Here I am at the finish of the Stroud Half-Marathon in 1983, and recently back from Jeddah, as the T-shirt indicates. The finish line was at the Marling School, where I had spent my last two years after it had amalgamated with the Stroud Boys Technical School (a much better institution). So, I did indeed return, some 16 years later (I wonder why they were looking the other way?). I was officially still on pre-discharge leave from the army at the time, and my beard got some unfriendly looks when I finally turned up at Arborfield to be demobbed!

My Last Posting

Having fun in the desert north of Jeddah in 1982. I was on "loan service" to the Saudi Arabian National Guard, and involved with the commissioning of their grand new 500-bed hospital.

Berlin

Up close at the Berlin Wall in 1980. I was there standing-in whilst the regular tech at the BMH went on leave.

BMH Hong Kong

The Electro-Med Hut

The famous "Electro-Med Hut" at 50 Command Workshop at Shamsuipo in 1975. It's all gone now, of course. And yes, that's my little Honda on display. Believe it or not, I used to ride that through the Kowloon traffic!

Up in Cranham Woods

Me, age 16, with my 500 cc twin AJS "wood bike" (bought for 10 shillings)! That’s Dad's old WWII Chev flatbed truck in the background, with two crawler tractors, a Caterpillar and an International, under cover at left rear. I would have been on leave from the Army Apprentices College at the time.
